Check the Individual Memory RAM Sticks & Slots
***Always switch the PC off at the rear power switch and unplug the power cable, before un/installing internal components/cables ***
We are testing the individual Memory/RAM sticks on their own and the individual DIMM Slots on the motherboard
Trying to determine whether one of the Memory Sticks, or one of the Memory Slots on the Motherboard is at fault
1. Make a mental note, label the Memory sticks as 1 & 2
2. Mentally label the Memory/Dimm Slots on the motherboard
DIMM Slot 1 slot closest to the CPU Fan
DIMM Slot 2 slot furthest away from the CPU fan
This is often marked on the motherboard itself but can be difficult to see
3. Take both RAM sticks out and clean both RAM sticks and DIMM Slots
4. Insert RAM stick 1 in DIMM Slot 2 , leave DIMM Slot 1 empty
5 Test system
6. If this test is successful, reverse and repeat the steps above
7. So Remove RAM stick 1 from DIMM Slot 2
8. Now insert RAM stick 1 in DIMM Slot 1 , leave DIMM Slot 2 empty
9. Test the system
10. If all is ok test RAM stick 2
11. Repeat the steps again but this time using only RAM stick 2
12. Test the system
13. These tests should give us a good indication of which RAM Stick or DIMM slot might be causing the problem.
13. Make a note of which stick or slot appears to be faulty and let us know
14. If neither stick or slot appears to be faulty please reinstall both sticks and test again
15. Often its just a case of settling each stick in on its own then adding the other stick and you will then be fine.
