Fans and lights are still on and running after computer shut down

If you shut down your computer properly from the Window's start menu or by pressing the power button and you notice that your screen is off but some internal parts still remain powered on such as the fans or lights, then there is a chance that the fast startup setting in Windows could be interfering with your computer systems shut down sequence.

To solve this problem, you'll need to disable fast startup in your Window's settings. To do this follow the steps below.

1. Press and hold the Windows () key, and then press the q key.

   ---

2. In the Search box, type Power and Sleep.

   ---

3. Touch or click Power & Sleep (System Settings).

   ---

4. In the Power & Sleep window, click on Additional power settings under the Related Settings section of the page (Figure 1)

5. Click on the link Choose what the power buttons do on the left options. (Figure 2)

6. Click Change settings that are currently unavailable at the top of the window. (Figure 3)

7. The checkmark options at the bottom should now be available.  If Turn on fast startup (recommended) is check, you will need to uncheck it to deactivate this feature. (Figure 4)

8. Click Save changes.

9. Now try shutting down your computer again to confirm if this change has resolved your issues.

10. Optional: To re-enable fast startup in the future just repeat steps 1-6 and at step 7 you will want to activate the checkmark instead.
